Course overview

The IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) by Air – Function 7.6 course equips flight planners and operations control personnel with the knowledge and skills necessary to ensure the safe and compliant transport of dangerous goods by air.
Through a series of modules aligned with IATA’s Competency-Based Training and Assessment (CBTA) framework, participants learn how to identify, manage, and plan for the carriage of dangerous goods in flight operations.

This course ensures that all flight planning activities adhere to international safety standards and regulatory requirements, minimizing risks associated with dangerous goods during air transport.

Course Purpose
To provide flight planning and dispatch teams with the understanding and competency needed to review, evaluate, and approve flights involving dangerous goods in compliance with the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) and applicable State or operator variations.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion, participants will be able to:

  • Define and identify substances classified as dangerous goods according to IATA DGR.

  • Understand the legal framework governing the air transport of dangerous goods.

  • Review the Notice to Captain (NOTOC) and verify accuracy of information related to dangerous goods loaded on an aircraft.

  • Identify the limitations applicable to the transport of dangerous goods based on aircraft type, route, and regulations.

  • Recognize prohibited and restricted articles, including those subject to State or operator variations.

  • Assess packaging, labeling, and documentation compliance for dangerous goods consignments.

  • Evaluate load segregation and stowage requirements for dangerous goods within aircraft compartments.

  • Apply the correct procedures for responding to in-flight or ground incidents involving dangerous goods.

  • Understand reporting requirements and documentation standards under IATA Section 9.6.

Assessment & Certification

  • Theoretical Evaluation: Passing grade of 80%

  • Observation/Competency Assessment: 100% required
