About Course

This course is designed for Flight Operations Officers and Flight Dispatchers responsible for managing aircraft turnaround and ensuring safe coordination of operations involving dangerous goods.
The program, aligned with the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) and the Competency-Based Training and Assessment (CBTA) approach, provides the required knowledge and competencies for personnel classified under Function 7.8.

Participants will learn to identify, assess, and manage dangerous goods, ensuring compliance with global aviation safety standards and reducing the risk of incidents during ground handling and flight operations.

Course Objectives

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Define and classify substances regulated as dangerous goods under IATA DGR.

  • Understand the legislation and international frameworks governing dangerous goods transport by air.

  • Identify prohibited and restricted substances and interpret related State and operator variations.

  • Review and interpret the nine classes of dangerous goods and corresponding IMP (Interline Message Procedure) codes.

  • Identify and apply the correct labels, markings, and documentation for each class of dangerous goods.

  • Read and interpret data within the Blue Pages (DGR 4.2) for dangerous goods identification.

  • Recognize undeclared dangerous goods and follow proper declaration and reporting procedures.

  • Understand loading, segregation, and storage requirements, including handling of radioactive packages.

  • Interpret and verify NOTOC (Notification to Captain) information for dangerous goods.

  • Use Table 2.3.A to determine passenger and crew allowances for specific dangerous goods, including lithium battery regulations.

  • Apply correct response and reporting procedures in case of a dangerous goods incident.

Course Evaluation

  • Theoretical Assessment: Minimum passing grade – 80%

  • Observation/Competency Assessment: Must achieve 100%
