The IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) by Air – Function 7.4 course provides essential knowledge and practical skills for ground handling and warehouse personnel involved in the movement of air cargo. It ensures compliance with global aviation safety standards and prepares participants to identify, handle, and transport dangerous goods in accordance with IATA DGR requirements.

This program forms part of the Competency-Based Training and Assessment (CBTA) approach under IATA guidelines, enabling participants to perform their operational duties safely, efficiently, and confidently.

Course Purpose
To equip personnel involved in cargo handling and aircraft loading with the ability to safely identify, manage, and handle dangerous goods in compliance with international air transport regulations.

Learning Objectives
By completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Define and identify dangerous goods and understand the regulations governing their air transport.

  • Recognize hidden or undeclared dangerous goods in cargo and passenger baggage.

  • Identify prohibited and restricted items, including those subject to State or operator variations.

  • Distinguish between the nine classes of dangerous goods and their corresponding IMP codes.

  • Interpret and apply correct labeling and marking for dangerous goods packages.

  • Implement safe loading, unloading, and storage procedures, including segregation requirements and handling of radioactive materials.

  • Verify aircraft loads against the Notification to Captain (NOTOC) and understand the information required for the pilot-in-command.

  • Apply passenger and crew provisions, including lithium battery handling requirements.

  • Follow appropriate procedures in the event of a dangerous goods incident or emergency.

Assessment & Certification

  • Theory Evaluation: Minimum 80% passing grade

  • Practical Observation: 100% competence required
