The IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) by Air – Function 7.5 course provides essential knowledge and skills for airport staff who handle passenger and crew baggage or work in boarding areas. It ensures compliance with the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations and equips participants to identify, manage, and prevent the carriage of dangerous goods by passengers and crew, maintaining the highest standards of aviation safety.

This course forms part of IATA’s Competency-Based Training and Assessment (CBTA) program and is designed to meet regulatory requirements for Function 7.5 personnel.

Course Purpose
To enable baggage handlers, check-in agents, and boarding area staff to identify, restrict, and manage dangerous goods carried by passengers and crew in both checked and cabin baggage, ensuring adherence to international aviation safety standards.

Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Define substances classified as dangerous goods and understand the legislation governing their transport by air.

  • Identify prohibited, restricted, and permissible items in passenger and crew baggage, referencing Table 2.3.A of the IATA DGR.

  • Recognize hidden or undeclared dangerous goods in passenger luggage and personal effects.

  • Understand the nine classes of dangerous goods and their corresponding hazard labels.

  • Explain the carriage rules for lithium batteries and other restricted items.

  • Apply correct procedures for managing baggage containing dangerous goods.

  • Respond appropriately to incidents involving dangerous goods in passenger or crew baggage.

  • Understand the emergency and reporting procedures required under IATA DGR guidelines.

Assessment & Certification

  • Theory Evaluation: Passing grade of 80%

  • Practical Observation: 100% competency required
