Course Purpose

This course is designed for personnel responsible for screening passenger and crew baggage, mail, or cargo, classified under Function 7.10.
It provides essential knowledge on the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR), ensuring that screening staff can accurately identify, assess, and respond to items that may pose safety risks during air transport.

Course Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Define substances classified as dangerous goods and understand the international legislation governing their transport.

  • Identify substances prohibited or restricted from being transported by air, based on State or operator variations.

  • Recognize and interpret markings and hazard labels on packages containing dangerous goods.

  • Review and differentiate the nine classes of dangerous goods, and understand IMP codes.

  • Detect undeclared or misdeclared dangerous goods and follow the correct declaration and reporting procedures.

  • Determine items permitted for passengers and crew, referencing IATA Table 2.3.A, including lithium battery handling regulations.

  • Apply correct response and reporting procedures in case of a dangerous goods incident using Menzies Aviation reporting tools.

Course Evaluation

  • Theory Assessment: Minimum passing grade of 80%.

  • Observation Assessment: Must achieve 100%.
